Chef Jamie Yoo, born in Korea, immigrated to the United States as a young teen. His culinary education started in high school where he received a certification from the Advanced Culinary Arts Program through the Washington Network for Innovative Careers. With perseverance and desire to learn, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Jamie has since worked in the kitchens of several reputable and award-winning chefs such as Bryan Voltaggio, Gary Danko, Michael Mina, Gavin Kaysen and Ben Shewry.
Jamie’s knowledge and technical skill flourished in the fine-dining setting, but his passion always remained in Asian cuisine. In 2021, the vision to create a meaningful example of contemporary Asian cuisine is made possible by opening Abang Yoli at the Malcolm Yards Market. Offering options for gluten-free, dairy-free and low-carb; Jamie honors the tastes and traditions he grew up with and celebrates the cultural values of both Eastern and Southeastern Asia cuisine while providing a thoughtful approach to the modern diet.
